Sony, Colors gear up with big ticket shows post IPL

With the IPL fever nearing its end as the event reaches the penultimate stage, Sony and Colors are all set to entertain audiences with their favourite singing and dance reality shows. Sony is back with the sixth season of singing reality show ‘Indian Idol’ from June 1, 2012, which will be telecast every Friday and Saturday at 8.30 PM.

Along with Indian Idol, Sony is adding a new fiction show in its weekday primetime line-up. The new show, ‘Byah Hamari Bahu Ka’, will premiere on May 28 and take the 8 PM slot from Monday to Thursday. Currently, the 8 PM slot is held by ‘Kuchh toh log kahenge’ which is being shifted to 11 PM, Monday to Thursday.

‘Byah Hamari Bahu Ka’ is the story of Krish and his soulmate Rajnibala. Gopikishan or Krish (as he is lovingly called), who has not been bitten by the love bug, takes one look at the beautiful Rajnibala and realises that she is his soul mate. Overlooking his fiancé Paulomi’s opinion – who counsels him to be sure before taking the plunge – Krish decides to follow his heart. Paulomi, like a true friend and support system, stands by Krish‘s decision, camouflaging her own heartbreak. The marriage takes place with great fanfare and Krish and Rajnibala become man and wife.

Like most classic love stories, this one too has all the trappings – love at first sight, rich boy, poor girl, family opposition, etc. But truth is stranger than fiction. And from here starts a roller coaster ride of two star-crossed soul mates whose destiny takes them to incredible highs and lows after which they both realize, and raise, many relevant questions pertaining to societal norms on the sanctity of marriage.

Colors’ post IPL line-up includes the fifth season of dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhla Ja – Dancing with the Stars’ which will feature Madhuri Dixit as judge again. Until last year, the show was with Sony Entertainment Television for four seasons. Jhalak Dikhla Ja Season 5 will be telecast on weekends starting mid-June.

Colors has another strong line-up in its new fiction show ‘Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon’ which premieres on May 28 in the 8.30 PM slot Monday to Friday. The show is replacing Veer Shivaji which goes off air next week. ‘Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon’ pays tribute to Indian cinema on the completion of 100 years and is hence named after a well known actor. Rumour is rife that the show is based on the life of Madhubala and her affair with superstar Dilip Kumar which was later denied by the producer of the show Saurabh Tewari.
