Madhuri has starred in over a 100 films and has always been
appreciated for her role in every movie whether in a lead or a side
role.
Madhuri made her Bollywood debut with 'Abodh' in 1984, but gained
recognition through her portrayal of a dancer in 'Tezaab'. She later
tasted commercial success with hits like Dil (1990), Saajan (1991), Beta
(1992), Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), Raja (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai
(1997), among others.
The Bollywood diva proved her acting prowess and received
critical acclaim with films such as Mrityudand (1997), Pukar (2000),
Lajja (2001) and Devdas (2002).
She has won 5 Filmfare awards and was also honored with a Padma Shri in 2008, for her contribution to Indian Cinema.
In 1999, Madhuri married Dr Shriram Madhav Nene at the peak of her career, and went on a hiatus to enjoy marital bliss.
Madhuri also did a successful stint on television by judging 'Jhalak Dikhla Ja 4', a dance reality show.
In 2001, Forbes named Madhuri among the 'Top Five Most Powerful Indian Movie Stars'.
Madhuri Dixit has been the muse for the famous Indian painter
M.F. Husain. He was so fascinated by Madhuri Dixit in Hum Aapke Hain
Koun..! that he watched the film 67 times, and in 2007 he booked an
entire theatre to see her comeback movie 'Aaja Nachle'.
Madhuri Dixit is a brand ambassador and a patron for Emeralds for
Elephants - a charity project for the conservation of Asian Elephants
and other endangered species.
The actress got immortalised in wax recently at the prestigious Madame Tussauds museum.
She also received the 'Master Deenanath Vishesh' award for her contribution to Indian cinema.
Madhuri is also nominated to receive the Raj Kapoor Special Contribution Award-2012.
To her fan legions, Madhuri Dixit was and still is the goddess of
grace and style and is regarded widely as one of Bollywood's best
superstar-actresses.
Come 2012, she is set to revive her B'wood career with 'Dedh Ishqiya' and 'Gulab Gang'.
